ELM 520: Transitioning Elementary Science Specialist Master’s of Education Courses from Blended to Online Format

The goal of this project was to transition three blended ELM courses (ELM 520, 524 and 539) to an online format to expand access beyond the surrounding communities of NC State to other elementary teachers, potentially from out of state or surrounding communities, who wish to pursue their master’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in science.

Instructional Challenges

  • Converting all three courses to an online format with blended synchronous components within one project cycle.
  • Keeping a sense of community from a face-to-face blended course in the online synchronous course.

Highlights/Solutions

  • Established course maps and flow for each of the three program courses.
