ADN 414 Demonstration Videos

Teaching skills to students can be difficult in a Distance Education environment. In ADN 414: Color and Light, Charles Joyner teaches his students how to mix paint, paint swatches and apply swatches to a mounting surface to form a composition.

Instructional Challenges

The primary instructional challenge was teaching students a particular set of skills that have traditionally been taught by face-to-face demonstration and follow-up individual feedback and critique.

Solutions

  • Demonstration videos for paint mixing, swatch painting and swatch mounting were filmed to give students instruction on critical skills.
  • VoiceThread provides students a way to submit work for critique by both other students and the instructor. Students are able to comment on the work of other students.
